Research has revolutionised the lives of people with asthma

What is the risk of damage to the lungs?

If you have frequent asthma symptoms or flare-ups over a long period of time, then there’s a risk of airway remodeling. This is when your airways become permanently narrowed, scarred and inflamed, which can mean your symptoms get worse and make it more difficult to breathe. This results in permanently reduced lung function.

There are special treatments that can help reduce flare-ups in patients with severe asthma. If you are concerned about your asthma management, speak to your doctor about a referral to a respiratory specialist to assess the best treatment for you.
