Montelukast latest information
Due to recent media attention of Montelukast, the Therapeutic Drugs Administration (TGA) – the Commonwealth body responsible for regulating medicines in Australia – conducted a safety review of the medication (April 2018).
This concluded there is an association between Montelukast and psychiatric side effects (such as agitation, sleep disturbance and depression) including, in rare cases, suicidal thinking and behaviour. We urge doctors and parents to monitor children taking montelukast and be prepared to cease treatment if side-effects are suspected.
