Why do so many professional athletes have asthma?
Anyone suffering with asthma knows how inhibiting the condition can become if left untreated: a small coughing episode can quickly turn into a nauseating struggle to breathe; light-headedness fast deteriorates into a fight to stand upright.
Brought on by something as innocuous as a grain of pollen, the impact can often be crippling. It is therefore remarkable, given the implications, to learn that many of the world’s top endurance athletes are medicated for - and suffer from - such a debilitating ailment.
