Asthma first aid training
Asthma Australia’s Asthma First Aid for School Staff is available online or via a face-to-face session at your site, and its free. Training takes up to an hour and includes risk management strategies for schools and addresses applicable guidelines and legislation.
Following your training, the staff at your local Asthma Foundation are available to provide advice on issues of asthma management that might arise at your site.
Online training is becoming more popular. We recommend that all our training follows a whole-of-staff approach. Our suggestion for online training is for staff to undertake this in a set timeframe (e.g. a fortnight), discuss at the next staff meeting, then as required, contact your local Asthma Foundation if there are issues or concerns about processes or particular students at your site. In most states/territories this training contributes to PD points (a certificate is generated on completion of the online training).
Education staff can access the online training here or to arrange a training session at your school contact your local Asthma Foundation on 1800 ASTHMA (1800 278 462).
Note: Certain Early Childhood staff must undertake training that meets the ACECQA legislative requirements for Childcare, Preschools and Out of School Hours Care settings. Contact your local Asthma Foundation for information about course dates and costs for Emergency Asthma Management and Anaphylaxis Awareness training that meets ACECQA requirements by phoning 1800 ASTHMA (1800 278 462).
