Asthma Management Program funding cut
Asthma Australia funding from the Australian government to manage asthma programs in the community has been significantly cut from 1 July 2017. This has impacted on the school program component of the Asthma Child and Adolescent Program (ACAP). The new funding level challenges us to shift our focus to the increasingly popular provision of online Asthma First Aid training in schools (see next article).
We are exploring other funding opportunities and arrangements to continue to provide on-site training for staff where preferred and information sessions for students that have been particularly popular. In the meantime, most states/territories will either provide on-site staff training through a fee for service to cover costs, or some are able to continue free training for a period of time using local funding.
