First Aid Training Requirements

The approved provider of a centre-based service must ensure that the following persons are in attendance at any place where children are being educated and cared for by the service, and immediately available in an emergency, at all times that children are being educated and cared for by the service, at least one educator who holds a current approved first aid qualification.

Minimum First Aid Training Requirements
1.

At least one staff member on site and available at all times with a current approved first aid qualification

 

Accepted Courses:

HLTAID003 Provide first aid (every 3 years)

This course is specifically designed to provide knowledge and skills in providing a first aid response to a casualty in the home, school and general community.

This course follows current Australian Resuscitation Guidelines. It is recommended that CPR knowledge and skills are refreshed annually.

NB: This course only covers the service for first aid

Or; HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting (every 3 years)

This course is specifically designed to provide knowledge and skills in providing a first aid response in an education and care setting including asthma and anaphylaxis emergencies.

This course follows current Australian Resuscitation Guidelines. It is recommended that CPR knowledge and skills are refreshed annually.

NB: for the purpose of this course an education and care setting is defined as a children's service, family daycare, kindergarten and an outside hours school care. It does not mean a Victorian School

NB: This course covers the service for first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis

HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (annually)

This course is specifically designed to provide knowledge and skills necessary to maintain breathing and circulation in and adult, child and infant following cardiac arrest, including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
