First Aid Training Requirements

The adequacy of first aid provision at your location must be reviewed at least yearly. Needs may change if employee or student numbers change significantly for instance. The first aid officer is responsible for restocking first aid kits, and this should be included as part of planned and scheduled workplace inspections.

Minimum training requirements

Less than 50 employees (and students) 1 first aid officer

50 - 199 employees (and students) 2 first aid officers

200 - 399 employees (and students) 4 first aid officers

400 - 599 employees (and students) 6 first aid officers

600 - 799 employees (and students) 8 first aid officers

800 - 999 employees (and students) 10 first aid officers

> 1000 employees (and students) 10 + one first aid officer for every additional 100 employees and students
  Where access is limited to medical and ambulance services (eg remote workplaces, school field excursions etc)  2 additional first aid officers for every category

Accepted Courses:

1. HLTAID003 Provide first aid (every 3 years)

This course is specifically designed to provide knowledge and skills in providing a first aid response to a casualty in the home, school and general community.

This course follows current Australian Resuscitation Guidelines. It is recommended that CPR knowledge and skills are refreshed annually.

2. HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (annually)

This course is specifically designed to provide knowledge and skills necessary to maintain breathing and circulation in and adult, child and infant following cardiac arrest, including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
