Helping others Live Well with asthma
Helping others Live well sessions aim to equip professionals to support people with asthma to improve their quality of life and achieve improved asthma outcomes.
This session aims to provide up to date, evidence based information on key asthma management principles. This session comes from a consumer perspective and provides useful tips and education points to enable improved care when working with people with asthma. The session aims to assist professionals in supporting people with asthma to improve their quality of life and achieve improved asthma outcomes.
Who should attend:
This education package has been designed to educate people working within the community who may work with or care for people who have asthma, e.g.
- Pharmacy staff
- Nursing staff (general practice and/or hospital)
- Prison officers and custodial staff
- Mental health nurses
- Allied health staff
- Youth workers
- Community health workers
- Social support staff
Working in a professional role to support people with asthma.
The Helping Others Live Well sessions focus on the following:
- Recognition of asthma (the condition) and its symptoms
Understanding good asthma symptom control and factors involved in this
- Understanding the purpose and importance of Written Asthma Action Plans
Understanding the importance of seeking doctor reviews
Being able to connect people to help and support, and
- Asthma First Aid, and when this should be administered
There is no assessment of this education, however evaluation of the session through completion of feedback forms is expected to assist with quality assurance process and providing best practice education.
Helping others Live well sessions are conducted by Asthma Foundation staff or Authorised Trainers.
Please allow 60-90 mins for this presentation, including evaluation.

Free - Currently these sessions are funded by the Australian Government, through Asthma Australia's Community Support Program. Nil cost for eligible sessions. .
