Research has revolutionised the lives of people with asthma

Asthma Friendly Children's Services

Asthma was made a national health priority in 1999. As a result, the Asthma Friendly Schools Program was launched in 2001, funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Health and Ageing. As a valued program over the last 18 years and with over 500 workplaces, sporting clubs and education and care services currently listed as asthma friendly nationally, the initiative has provided the opportunity for services to develop safe, healthy and inclusive environments for people with asthma.

As Asthma Australia moves forward as a National organisation and with the introduction of the National Asthma Strategy 2018, it is essential that programs are reviewed and in line with the outcomes set by the organisation as well as Governing bodies across Australia.

Asthma Australia has been funded by the Commonwealth Government to implement a schools and youth project that is to incorporate a “Schools Health Check".

In light of this exciting announcement, the Asthma Friendly Program is currently under review to identify where the initiative fits within the work of Asthma Australia and the planned schools and youth projects. During the review of the program Asthma friendly applications and renewals will not be processed with further communication to come once the review has been completed.

As an education and care-based setting, it is important that your required training and policies are still in place and up to date, as per your governing body eg. Department of Education and Training (DET) or Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA).

Asthma Australia continues to provide training courses to assist meeting your settings training requirements. Further information can be found here.
